Type: — PERU. Pasco: Huancabamba: Santa Barbara, 1 km al E de la Escuela, zona de amortiguamiento del Parque Nacional Yanachaga-Chemillén, 3390–3420 m, 29 January 2005, E . Ortiz 2454, (holotype: MO!)
Distribution:— Peru in the department of Pasco. The only known record of the type is from central Peru on the eastern slopes of the Andes.
Notes:— Epidendrum yanachagaënse is recognized by the leaves, 0.8–4 × 0.9–1.3 cm, ovate-elliptic, the flowers green with purple black spots at the apex of the column and lip, the sepals 15-16 mm long, elliptic, the petals 15 × 4 mm, oblanceolate and falcate, and the lip sub-orbicular and convex in natural position. Florally it is different from other species of the Soratae subgroup, but very similar to E. erosum which belongs to the Cernuum group and is endemic to Colombia and has leaves 2–10.5 × 0.7–1.9 cm, lanceolate-oblong to narrowly elliptic, the sepals 10–12 mm long and the petals 9–11.5 mm, linear-oblanceolate, not falcate.
Conservation Status:— DD. Data deficient.
