Comments. Zimmermann (1921) introduced the new species in the combination ‘ Bidessodes plicatus nov. spec.’ However, on the previous page, the author stated ‘ Bidessus subg. Bidessodes ’ and thus clearly gave subgeneric status to Bidessodes Régimbart, 1900 . Therefore the correct original combination is ‘ Bidessus (Bidessodes) plicatus ’. The fact was overlooked by the subsequent revising author (Young 1969, 1986) and was corrected only in the World catalogue (Nilsson 2001). Following ICZN (1999: Article 53.3), Bidessus plicatus Zimmermann, 1921 is a junior primary homonym of Bidessus plicatus Sharp, 1882, and is therefore permanently invalid and has to be substituted (ICZN 1999: Article 60.1). Because the taxon has no available synonym, a new substitute name Bidessodes zimmermanni nom. nov. is here proposed (ICZN 1999: Article 60.3). The fact that the junior homonym was described in the subgenus Bidessodes has no effect on the homonymy (ICZN 1999: Article 57.4). A similar situation has already been solved by Hendrich & Wang (2006) for the Australian Bidessus bifasciatus Zimmermann, 1922, preoccupied by the Neotropical Bidessus (Hemibidessus) bifasciatus Zimmermann, 1921 .
