Allium senescens Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 299. 1753.

"Habitat in Sibiria, Sicilia." RCN: 2369.

Lectotype (Friesen in Feddes Repert. 106: 68. 1995): Herb. Linn. No. 419.25 (LINN) .

Current name: Allium senescens L. ( Liliaceae / Alliaceae).

Note: Stearn (in Herbertia 11: 32. 1946) stated that the cited Gmelin plate "is usually regarded as the type" but did not formally indicate it as such himself. Although Hanelt & van Raamsdonk (in Wisskirchen & Haeupler, Standardliste Farn- Blütenpfl . Deutschl.: 58. 1998) interpreted this as formal typification, Friesen’s choice of material in LINN as type pre-dates their publication.
