Astragalus campestris Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 761. 1753.

"Habitat in Oelandia, Germania, Helvetia." RCN: 5612.

Lectotype (Welsh in Great Basin Naturalist 51: 381. 1991): Herb. Linn. No. 926.51 (LINN) .

Current name: Oxytropis campestris (L.) DC. subsp. campestris ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Stearn (in Biol. J. Linn. Soc. 5: 9-10. 1973), in an account of Linnaeus’ Öland and Gotland journey of 1741, treated Räpplinge in Öland as the restricted type locality, and noted the existence of 926.51 (LINN), annotated by Linnaeus as from Öland . In his paper, Stearn attributed restricted type localities irrespective of whether any material existed in LINN and, where specimens do exist, he does not refer to any of them as type specimens. Jonsell & Jarvis (in Nordic J. Bot. 22: 77. 2002) subsequently made a formal type choice of this material, unaware that Welsh had already done so.
