Lectotype (Hubbard in Milne-Redhead & Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Gramineae 1: 82. 1970): Herb. Linn. No. 95.9 (LINN) .

Current name: Avena fatua L. ( Poaceae).

Note: Baum (in Taxon 40: 132-134, 1991) proposed the conservation of the name with a conserved type but the Committee for Spermatophyta (in Taxon 43: 114. 1994) declined to recommend this. Avena fatua was incorrectly indicated as the generitype by Jarvis & al. (in Regnum Veg. 127: 22. 1993): the generitype is A. sativa L.
