Astragalus physodes Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 760. 1753.

"Habitat in Sibiria." RCN: 5607.

Lectotype (Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 1129, f. 1, 2. 2002 [2001]): Astrachan, Lerche s.n. (MW No. 463).

Current name: Astragalus physodes L. ( Fabaceae: Faboideae).

Note: Podlech (in Taxon 46: 464. 1997), believing there to be no original elements extant for the name, designated Pallas material (BM) as a neotype. However, original material was subsequently found in MW, and Jarvis & al. (in Taxon 50: 1129. 2002) consequently rejected Podlech’s choice in favour of the MW material. Greuter (in OPTIMA Newsl. 36: 44. 2002) argued that the typification was, in fact, effected earlier, by Jarvis & al., Herb. Linnaeanum: 11 (2001), but this is erroneous because the phrase "designated here", or an equivalent (necessary under Art. 7.11), did not appear there.
