Dallas (1851) was the first reviser and synonymized three of Westwood’s species ( frontalis, capicola and lata), choosing capicola as the valid name even though frontali s had page priority (ICNZ 1999, Articles 24a and 24b).

Diagnosis. Thorax: ostiolar ruga long, but shorter than in N. orbiculata, anterior margin curved, apex pointed (Fig. 3 D). Abdomen: urosternites with black maculae, diameter shorter than spiracles, as in N. orbiculata . Male: ventral rim of pygophore with brims developed towards middle, not continuous at mid line, and forming a deep concavity there (Fig. 8G), character exclusive for this species; paramere trilobate, lobes rounded and slightly developed. Female: posterior margins of gonocoxites 8 straight; basal half of laterotergites 9 laterally concave and medially convex (Fig. 16 G); ductus receptaculi, after vesicular area, longer than three times the length of pars intermedialis (Fig. 18 B), shared with N. orbiculata and N. soror .
