Diagnosis. Members of the subfamily Sparianthinae are distinguished from those of the remaining Sparassidae subfamilies by the combination of the following characters: chelicerae with retromarginal teeth much smaller than promarginals (as large as in other subfamilies); trochanter with distal ventral margin smooth (notched in other subfamilies); metatarsal trilobate membrane with median lobe much smaller than lateral projections (as large as or larger in other subfamilies); and male palps with spoon-shaped median apophysis (absent in other subfamilies).
