Elephantulus intufi (A. Smith 1834)

Type Locality: South Africa, North West Province, Marico District, flats beyond Kurrichaine.

Vernacular Names: Bushveld Elephant Shrew.

Synonyms: Elephantulus alexandri (Ogilby 1838); Elephantulus campbelli Roberts 1938; Elephantulus canescens Lundholm 1955; Elephantulus kalaharicus Roberts 1932; Elephantulus mchughi Roberts 1946; Elephantulus mossamedensis Hill and Carter 1937; Elephantulus namibensis Roberts 1938; Elephantulus omahekensis Lehmann 1955; Elephantulus schinzi (Noack 1889) .

Distribution: SW Angola; Namibia; Botswana; N South Africa.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Corbet (1974:5) and Meester et al. (1986:313) declined to recognize subspecies although Corbet and Hanks (1968:90) considered that two might be recognized with alexandri applicable to all but the eastern nominate population.
