Generitype of Zizania Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 188. 1929).

Current name: Zizania aquatica L. ( Poaceae).

Note: Hitchcock (in Contr. U. S. Natl. Herb. 12: 124. 1908) and Fassett (in Rhodora 26: 153. 1924) each discussed original elements for this name and reached different conclusions as to its application, but without formally typifying the name. Reveal’s formal typification appears to have clarified any remaining uncertainty.
