Type locality. Havana, Cuba. Distribution. Cosmopolitan.

Remarks. The well-known “bathroom fly” is the most common synanthropic species of Psychodidae, found almost everywhere in the world. With tropical origin, this species has spread far into northern and Central Europe in recent decades and is currently widely distributed in anthropogenic habitats in tropical and temperate regions around the world (Zittra et al. 2020). Ibáñez-Bernal (2008) attributes the worldwide synanthropic distribution to the ability of this species to breed in a diversity of artificial environments, contributed by human’s intercontinental transport over significant distances through garbage, organic materials, or even water containers (Wagner et al. 2008a; Boumans et al. 2009).
