Prochironomus irioheius Sasa et Suzuki, 2000: 16 –17, Fig. 17 a–m. [Holotype 385: 043.] Syn. nov.

Prochironomus irioheius apparently belongs in the genus Paratendipes, as it has a cylindrical median volsella densely covered with slightly broadened setae and a superior volsella with swollen base and short, slightly hocked distal part (Figs. 33–34). The wing of P. irioheius has two broad, conspicuous dark bands (Fig. 35 ﹚, and the anal point is comparatively short and slender. According to Kieffer (1916: 117), these characters are diagnostic for Paratendipes nigrofasciatus Kieffer.

Wang et al. (1989) placed Chironomus (Prochironomus) bifascipennis Tokunaga, 1940 as a junior synonym of Paratendipes nigrofasciatus . Prochironomus Kieffer, 1909 is considered a nomen dubium by Ashe and Cranston (1990: 317).
