Distribution and habitat. Three reliable records include India, Myanmar and Ecuador, H. stephensoni probably is a cosmopolitan species. Terrestrial.

Distribution in China. Jilin Province (Lian et al. 2011; Shen 2012); Guizhou Province (Chen et al. 2022).

New records. Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the soil of Huangjingdong National Forest Park (24°48’39.56”N, 106°22’13.52”E; 1003 m asl), leg. X. Jiang, 06. 2019; Hubei Province, Mount Luojia, under a pine tree (30°32’05.39”N, 114°22’10.95”E; 31 m asl), 04. 2019, leg. X. Jiang & J. Chen.
