Suncus zeylanicus Phillips 1928
Suncus zeylanicus Phillips 1928, Spolia Zeylan., 14: 313.
Type Locality: Sri Lanka, Gonagama Estate, Kitulgala, 900 ft. (274 m).
Vernacular Names: Jungle Shrew.
Distribution: Higlands of Sri Lanka.
Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.
Discussion: Phillips (1980) stressed that zeylanicus differs distinctly from murinus in the flesh, particularly by its long and almost naked tail, and that it lives in primary forest. However, its relation to montanus has still to be studied.
