Type Locality: "Omi-san, Sze-chwan" [= China, Sichuan, Emei Shan].
Vernacular Names: Lesser Striped Shrew.
Synonyms: Sorex (Sorex) fumeolus Thomas 1911; Sorex (Sorex) gomphus G. Allen 1923; Sorex (Sorex) nepalensis Weigel 1969; Sorex (Sorex) wardi Thomas 1911 .
Distribution: Montane forests of S Gansu and W Shensi to Yunnan (China); adjacent Burma and Nepal.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Subgenus Sorex . Formerly a subspecies of cylindricauda but recognized as a full species by Corbet (1978 c) and Hoffmann (1987).
