Type Locality: Mexico, Jalisco, near San Sebastián, mountains at Milpillas.
Vernacular Names: Mexican Shrew.
Distribution: Nayarit to Oaxaca (Mexico).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Formerly included in Notiosorex (Hall, 1981:65); but Repenning (1967:56) and Armstrong and Jones (1972 a, Mammalian Species No. 16) considered Megasorex a distinct genus; a view supported by George (1986) on the basis of allozyme data.
