Diplommatina kakenca n. sp.
(Figs 11, 22; Table 1)
Diplommatina (Sinica) javana javana — RenSch 1931: 387 (not Möllendorff, 1897).
Diagnosis. Diplommatina kakenca n. sp. is characterized by a widely ribbed (29–39 ribs on the penultimate whorl), small (shell height 3–3.25 mm), sinistral shell with two short oblique palatal folds ventrally to ventrolaterally right inside the last whorl.
Shell (Fig. 22; Table 1). Sinistral; ovoid with conical early whorls and a narrowed last whorl; with 5–6 whorls separated by a deep suture; protoconch smooth; teleoconch with oblique ribs (29–39 on the penultimate whorl; less ribs on the last whorl); spiral striae between the ribs occasionally visible; corneous; subtranslucent; last whorl rounded, with an indistinct ventral constriction; aperture roundish, angular at the transition from columellar to basal side; upper insertion of the peristome distinctly ascending towards aperture; insertions of the peristome connected by a weak callus; peristome expanded, thickened, doubled, with a process at the columellar side; aperture with a low columellar lamella; with a weak oblique palatal fold running from the suture leftwards ventrolaterally right inside the last whorl and with a short oblique palatal fold ventrally running from the suture rightwards; umbilicus closed. Shell height 3–3.25 mm, shell diameter 1.65–1.8 mm.
Remarks. Concerning the misidentification of D. kakenca n. sp. as D. javana by Rensch (1931) see remarks on D. javana .
Habitat. On volcanic soils at 2400 m a.s.l.
Type material. Holotype: Indonesia, Java, West Java: Mt. Cikuray, 2400 m a.s.l., 7°19'S 107°52'E (ZMA 363147, ex coll. Schepman 1920, D = 1.65 mm, H = 3.25 mm). Paratypes: Mt. Cikuray, 2400 m a.s.l., 7°19'S 107°52'E (ZMA 33669/2).
Distribution (Fig. 11). Diplommatina kakenca n. sp. is endemic to West Java, where it has been found so far only on Mt. Cikuray.
Etymology. The name refers to the sinistral shell, kakenca means to the left in the Sundanese language spoken in West Java.
