Conognatha splendens Waterhouse, 1912:59 . [Figure 40A & 40B]
Lectotype: “ Holo-type // Parana // Saunders. 74 18. // Conognatha splendens, ( Type) Waterh. // NHMUK 014380336 // Conognatha splendens Waterhouse, 1912 LECTOTYPE det. Pineda & Matsumoto, 2020”. Lectotype here designated .
Current status: Conognatha (Conognatha) splendens Waterhouse, 1912 (Moore & Lander, 2010).
Comments: Moore & Lander (2010:82) designated as lectotype a specimen in the Naturhistorisches Museum (NHMB) labelled as “ Lectotype, n°1579, 23 mm, Cuiaba, Brésil ”, but it does not match the information given in Waterhouse (1912:59), who stated clearly that the specimen described measures 19 mm and the habitat is “ Parana ”. The Code states: 74.2. Lectotype found not to have been a syntype. If it is demonstrated that a specimen designated as a lectotype was not a syntype, it loses its status of lectotype. The designation of this specimen as a lectotype of Conognatha splendens is therefore revoked and a new lectotype is designated for Conognatha splendens Waterhouse, 1912 . The NHMUK specimen was chosen as lectotype because it matches the original description, including size and the information on the label matches that cited for the type. The above has no taxonomic implications because both the previous and the new lectotype seems to be the same species.
