Diagnosis. Maximum known TL 1767 mm (Salgar, 2007). SG present or not. Dermal and subdermal scales present or not. Eye visible and generally in an open socket, except in C. gracilis, which may have eyes under skull bones. Tentacles below nostrils, near the margin of the mouth, closer to nostrils than to eyes and to corner of mouth. Nostrils subcircular, may or may not be visible from above. Small terminal shield present or not, posterior to the vent; no keel on body terminus. Tongue with two narial plugs, anteriorly not completely attached to the mandibular mucosa. Dentition in four series, monocuspid; maxillary teeth extending posteriorly beyond the level of the choanae. Three species in Amazonian Brazil.
