Type species: Torotrogla mima Kethley, 1970, by original designation.

Members of this genus occupy quills of primaries, secondaries and tertials feathers and are associated with passeriform birds of the families: Alaudidae, Calcariidae, Cardinalidae, Corvidae, Emberizidae, Fringillidae, Mimidae, Muscicapidae, Ptilogonatidae, Prunellidae, Pycnonotidae, and Turdidae .

The Nearctic fauna comprises eight of the 17 described species in this genus: T. aphelocoma Bochkov et al., 2009, T. cardinalis Bochkov et al., 2009, T. coccothraustes Bochkov et al., 2009, T. cyanocitta Bochkov et al., 2009, T. merulae Skoracki et al., 2000, T. mima Kethley, 1970, T. piranga Bochkov et al., 2009, and T. villosa (Hancock, 1895) .
