The nominal species, C. balkanica balkanica Baumann & Kaćanski, 1975, was described from Montenegro, C. balkanica macedonica from SE Macedonia. The species was reported also from the Peloponnes, first without subspecific identification (Tierno de Figueroa & Fochetti 2007), then as C. balkanica balkanica (Murányi 2011a) . Comparing the Peloponnes material with the present topotypes, those can be attributed to C. balkanica macedonica instead of C. balkanica balkanica .

In Montenegro, imagoes were found from November to March, Macedonian specimens are on the wings from February to April, while the Peloponnes specimens were caught in March and April. All known populations live in permanent streams and spring outlets.
