Type Locality: Chile, Coquimbo Prov., Coquimbo.

Vernacular Names: Long-tailed Chinchilla.

Synonyms: Chinchilla chincilla (Fischer 1814); Chinchilla velligera Prell 1934 .

Distribution: N Chile, in foothills of the Andes and coastal mountains south to Talca.

Conservation: CITES – Appendix I; IUCN – Vulnerable.
