Sinapis chinensis Linnaeus, Systema Naturae, ed. 12, 2: 445; Mantissa Plantarum: 95. 1767.

"Habitat in China? Arduini." RCN: 4867.

Lectotype (Al-Shehbaz in Cafferty & Jarvis in Taxon 51: 535. 2002): Arduino s.n., Herb. Linn. No. 845.9 (LINN) .

Current name: Brassica tournefortii Gouan ( Brassicaceae).

Note: Bailey (in Gentes Herb. 1: 93. 1922) suggested that Linnaeus had based this on an Arduino description, and noted the existence of an Arduino collection in LINN but did not designate a type. Although Burtt & Lewis (in Kew Bull. 4: 285. 1949) referred to material in LINN as "the type specimen", they did not distinguish between sheets 845.9 and 845.10 (which are evidently not part of the same gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply).
