Salvia cretica Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 23. 1753.
"Habitat in Creta." RCN: 183.
Neotype (Paton in Jarvis & al. in Taxon 50: 517. 2001): Cultivated. Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, 6 Jul 1880, Nicholson 1586 (K).
Current name: Salvia officinalis L. ( Lamiaceae).
Note: This name has not been in use for many years, and has been variously associated with S. lavandulifolia Vahl, S. officinalis L. and S. aucheri Benth. There are no extant original elements for the name, and the neotype chosen by Paton results in S. cretica becoming a synonym of S. officinalis .
