Sempervivum globiferum Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 464. 1753.
"Habitat in Rutheno. D. Gmelin." RCN: 3562.
Lectotype (Letz & Marhold in Taxon 45: 111. 1996): Gerber, Herb. Linn. No. 632.1 (LINN) .
Current name: Jovibarba globifera (L.) J. Parn. subsp. globifera ( Crassulaceae).
Note: Muirhead (in Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 26: 280. 1965) informally proposed that the name should be rejected on account of its usage for a large number of different species, and uncertainty as to its correct application. Tjaden (in Bull. Afr. Succ. Pl. Soc. 4: 40-43, 85-88, 124-125, 167-170. 1969; 5: 192-193. 1970) agreed but did not formally typify the name. Parnell & Faverger (in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 103: 218. 1990) took the name up (in Jovibarba) in the sense of S. soboliferum J. Sims but the name was only formally typified by Letz & Marhold in 1996.
