Scutellaria integrifolia Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 599. 1753.

"Habitat in Virginia, Canada." RCN: 4354.

Lectotype (Epling in Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot. 20: 90. 1942): Clayton 205 (BM-000038158).

Current name: Scutellaria integrifolia L. ( Lamiaceae).

Note: Reveal (in Taxon 38: 517. 1989), believing Smith, in 1815, to have typified the name on material in LINN belonging to a different taxon, proposed the name for conservation with a conserved type (Clayton 205, BM). However, the Committee for Spermatophyta (in Taxon 42: 695. 1993) ruled that Smith had made no formal type choice. Consequently, Epling’s (1942) type choice of the same Clayton material is the earliest, and the conservation proposal was ruled unnecessary.
