Salicornia europaea Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 3. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae litoribus maritimis." RCN: 24.
Lectotype (Jafri & Rateeb in Jafri & El-Gadi, Fl. Libya 58: 57. 1978): Herb. Linn. No. 10.1 (LINN) .
Generitype of Salicornia Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 115. 1929).
Current name: Salicornia europaea L. ( Chenopodiaceae).
Note: Ball (in Feddes Repert. 69: 6. 1964) noted 10.1 (LINN) from Gotland, and therefore concluded it to be the diploid cytotype (as this is the form that occurs there). However, he did not explicitly typify the name; Jafri & Rateeb appear to have been the first to do this. Piirainen (in Ann. Bot. Fenn. 28: 82. 1991) also reached the same conclusion as to the type.
