Salix fragilis Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1017. 1753.

"Habitat in Europae borealibus." RCN: 7365.

Proposed conserved type (Christensen & Jonsell in Taxon 54: 555. 2005): Transcaucasia [Turkey], Karsskaya obl., Promezhutochoj, beregr. Kjaklik, 11 May 1914, Turkevich, Iter Transcauc. No. 245 (LE).

Current name: Salix fragilis L. ( Salicaceae).

Note: Although the usage of this name has not always been clear, none of the original elements corresponds with recent usage. Christensen & Jonsell (in Taxon 54: 555. 2005) have therefore proposed the conservation of the name with a conserved type. Jordaan (in Bothalia 35: 17. 2005) proposed 1158.19 (LINN) as lectotype but this does not appear to be original material for the name, and is apparently identifiable as S. alba L.
