Family Ostreidae Rafinesque, 1815 (10 species)

Remarks: Crassostrea virginica (Gmelin, 1791) has been referred from Brazil (e.g., Mikkelsen & Bieler 2007), however, Amaral & Simone (2014) recorded it as restricted to the Atlantic coast of the USA.
