Bathymetric distribution: 0–77 m —SW.

Geographical distribution: USA (North Carolina) to Brazil (MA to SC; FN, Atol das Rocas and Abrolhos islands), Ascension Island, Sta. Helena Island; western Europe—WGD.

Remarks: This species has been referred as P. radians (Lamarck, 1819) (e.g., Rios 1970, 1975, 1985, 1994, 2009), C. ferruginea Reeve, 1846, and C. variegata Reeve, 1847 (Métivier 1967b), all of them considered synonyms of P. cristella (Huber 2010a) .
