455. Proteopitar patagonicus (d'Orbigny, 1844)

Bathymetric distribution: 10–100 m —SW.

Geographical distribution: Brazil (BA) to Magellanic Region—WGD.

Remarks: Specimens of this species from Brazil have been referred to as Pitar rostratus (F. C. L. Koch, 1844) (e.g., Fischer–Piette & Testud 1967b; Rios 1970, 1975, 1985, 1994, 2009; Denadai et al. 2006). However, this is considered a synonym of Proteopitar patagonicus (e.g., Alvarez et al. 2019).
