Genus Scutogona Ribaut, 1913

Diagnosis: A genus of Chamaesomatidae subfamily Scutogoninae (=Scutogonidae sensu Mauriès 1964). Differs

from other scutogonine genera by the following combination of characters:

-body unpigmented (≠ Chamaesoma, Coiffaiteuma, Krauseuma, Meinerteuma, Xystrosoma part.) -anterior gonopods with a pair of flagella (≠ Asturasoma, Chamaesoma, Marboreuma, Origmatogona, Vascosoma, Xystrosoma)

-posterior gonopod coxa with long, pointed process (≠ Marboreuma, Origmatogona part., Vascosoma) -posterior gonopod telopodite consisting of well-developed, subequal podomeres (≠ Chamaesoma, Marboreuma, Xystrosoma)

-second pair of postgonopodal legs (P11) with well-developed coxal hooks (≠ Asturasoma, Marboreuma, Vascosoma, Verhoeffeuma).

Included species: Scutogona mutica Ribaut, 1913 (type species), S. jeanneli Ribuat, 1913, S.alba Schubart, 1958 (dubious), S. oculinigra Mauriès & Vicente, 1977, S. vivesi Mauriès & Vicente, 1977, S. minor n. sp. Note: The name Scutogona is feminine (Jeekel 1970) although it has been treated as neuter by previous authors; species names in combination with Scutogona have been accordingly emended.
