REMARKS: Synonymized under Photinus evanescens in part, P. lobatus in part, and P. lucernula in part in McDermott & Buck (1959) but treated as a valid species again in McDermott (1966). Misspelled as Photinus maratimus [sic] in Gowdey (1926). Blackwelder (1945) used both Photinus maritimus and P. contemptus .
