Phanaeus mimaeformis Ancey, 1880: 205 (original description). Type locality: unknown; incorrectly stated as Costa Rica by Ancey (1880) based on mislabelled material, but the species does not occur there (Valois et al. 2018). Name-bearing type: lectotype (RBINS), designated by Valois et al. (2018), not examined.
