Genus Thaumatogelis Schwarz, 1995

The most useful character to separate Thaumatogelis Schwarz from Gelis Thunberg is the presence of striae on the lateral side of first tergite. In addition, the dorsal carina of the first tergite is lacking behind the spiracle, and the laterotergite of second tergite is reduced. Flagellum usually not widened to apex. The generic key of Schwarz (1995) is well applicable for the females of all known Thaumatogelis species, however with some limitations in the case of T. pilosus (Capron), which is discussed below in detail.
