Type Locality: Madagascar.

Vernacular Names: Tail-less Tenrec.

Synonyms: Tenrec armatus I. Geoffroy 1837; Tenrec tanrec Boddaert 1785 .

Distribution: All latitudes and phytographic zones: eastern humid forest, central highlands, northern highlands, sambirano, western deciduous forest, spiny bush, Madagascar; Comoro Isls. Introduced on Reunion, Mauritius, and the Seychelle Isls.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).
