Comment. The original description of M. scutellaris is based on a single specimen from " Turquie " (Fauvel 1900); the locality is not specified. The species was later recorded also from Adana by Bordoni (1971). Both the description and the illustrations of the holotype of Lepidophallus denticulatus (Bordoni 2004) leave no doubt that it is conspecific with M. scutellaris, a conclusion confirmed by an examination of the holotype of L. denticulatus, which was collected in Antalya province. Lepidophallus denticulatus is consequently a junior synonym of M. scutellaris .
The distribution of this species is apparently confined to southern Anatolia and adjacent islands (Fig. 108). The specimens from Rhodos represent the first records from Greece.
