Type locality: Transcaspien, Merw, Sefir-kuh [Tadzhikistan, Kulyab]. Type material (syntypes) in MHUB, examined.
Distribution: Tadzhikistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan (Yakovlev 2004). Reported for Sarobi (Daniel 1964). Reports of “ Cossus tapinus ” from Nuristan, Barikot (Daniel 1965) and Nimla, 40 km SW Dschelalabad (Daniel 1971) were based on misidentifications of specimens from the genus Dervishiya Yakovlev, 2006: D. cadambae (Moore, 1881) and D. vartianae Yakovlev, 2011 (description was based on the specimens mentioned by Daniel (1971)), respectively. Habitat and biology. Flight period: June −July. Altitude: 1100−1800 m (Daniel 1964; 1965).
