Type species. Perichaeta neoguinensis Michaelsen, 1892, by original designation.

Diagnosis. " Megascolecidae with an oesophageal gizzard in VIII, intestinal caeca and gizzards absent. Body cylindrical, setae never excessively crowded ventrally, creeping sole absent. Male pores lacking porophores, occasionally on slim penes which may be within copulatory pouches. Crescentic genital markings associated with the male pores on mature individuals of most species. Spermathecal pores small or large, spermathecal diverticula variable in structure and origin" (Easton 1979: 79).

Distribution. North and southeast New Guinea, New Britain, Lombok, Carolines, Solomon Islands and New Hebrides (Easton 1979).
