Generitype of Dianthus Linnaeus (vide Hitchcock, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 155. 1929).

Current name: Dianthus caryophyllus L. ( Caryophyllaceae).

Note: See detailed discussion by Langen & al. (in Taxon 33: 717. 1984), who chose a Herb. Clifford sheet (see their f. 1) as lectotype, unaware of Ghafoor’s earlier choice. As the Linnaean sheet appears to be original material, Ghafoor’s choice is valid and has priority.
