Dais cotinifolia Linnaeus, Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 1: 556. 1762.
"Habitat ad Cap. b. spei." RCN: 3066.
Lectotype (Peterson in Polhill, Fl. Trop. E. Africa, Thymelaeaceae: 16. 1978): Herb. Linn. No. 554.1 (LINN) .
Generitype of Dais Linnaeus.
Current name: Dais cotinifolia L. ( Thymelaeaceae).
Note: Fuchs in Acta Bot. Neerl. 11: 74. 1962) argued that as Linnaeus’ description came from David van Royen, an illustration of the plant from Leiden, published later by Meerburg, should be the holotype. This could have been an effective neotypification (Art. 9.8) but for the existence of original material (Herb. Linn. 554.1, LINN), subsequently designated as type by Peterson.
