Brachytrupes chopardi tropicus Gorochov. 1988: p. 30
Type material: holotype ♁, Africa, East Tropical Africa, Tanzania, Zanzibar. ZIN .
Description (Gorochov. 1988). The size is large. The coloring is light. The head is rather wide, with poorly developed ocellar tubercles, as others pecies; coloration of the head is fawn with a brownish transverse spot between the eyes (above the median ocellus). The pronotum is also pale yellow, but with a brown pattern on the disc. Elytra, legs, abdomen almost uniform, fawn. The hindwings protrude considerably posteriorly from under the tegmina; their tops are yellowish. The forelegs are relatively weakly pubescent. It differs from the nominative species in larger size, wider head in the male, less pubescent fore tibiae and a somewhat different shape of the apex of the middle posterior protrusion of the epiphallus. It differs from other species of the genus in its generally lighter color and a small spermatophore sac in the male genitalia, which, like in other species, does not significantly reach the tops of the ramuses in front.
