Genus Eucalymnatus Cockerell in Cockerell & Parrott, 1901

Type species: Lecanium tessellatum Signoret, 1873, by original designation.

Diagnosis. Polygonal sclerotized plates irregularly present on dorsum (Fig. 30C); ventral tubular ducts absent; legs each with a tibio-tarsal articulatory sclerosis (Fig. 31G) (Hodgson 1994; Hamon & Williams 1984).

Remarks. Eucalymnatus comprises 11 described species, mostly restricted to Brazil, Guatemala and Guyana in the Neotropical region except for the cosmopolitan species, E. tessellatus . Mature adult females of the genus are easily recognized by the polygonal sclerotized plates on the dorsum (Hodgson 1994; GarcĂ­a Morales et al. 2016).
