Tenthredo araxana Mocsáry, 1909

A valid species, Tenthredo (Tenthredella) araxana Mocsáry, 1909 .

TYPES. Tenthredo Araxana [sic!] Mocsáry, 1909: 38. Syntype (s) Ƥ, “Caucasus: Vallis fluminis Araxes”. 1Ƥ syntype “Caucasus Araxesthal” [= Aras valley, most likely near Ordubad, Azerbaijan] examined.

DISCUSSION. The current placement of the taxon needs to be checked in the course of a revision of Tenthredella Rohwer, 1910, as there seem to be several very similar species in the Holarctic region. Morphologically the syntype is very similar to Central European specimens of Tenthredo atra Linnaeus, 1758 . The differences in colour are also minor. The main difference is the colour of the first tergite that is laterally white in araxana but black in atra . Muche (1973) treated araxana as a subspecies of atra .
