Verum minutum (Hoek, 1883)

Fig. 38 A, B

Scalpellum minutum Hoek, 1883: 113, pl. V, fig. 12; Stubbings, 1936: 28; Nilsson-Cantell, 1938: 7.

Verum minutum: Zevina 1981a: 239, fig. 175.

Verum (?) minutum: Foster & Buckeridge, 1995a: 358–359, fig. 6G; Foster & Buckeridge, 1995b: 172–173, fig. 6B–F.

Material examined. Holotype NHM UK 2013.1136, Stn 302: Pacific, Southeast (off Isla Chiloe, Chile); 2654 m.

Supplementary description. Foster & Buckeridge (1995a).

Distribution. Pacific, Southeast; Indian Ocean, Western. Known depth range 800 to 2700 m.

Remarks. There is uncertainty over the validity of this species. The “Challenger” specimen is small and partly transparent, probably representing a juvenile stage. No description of the appendages of the holotype has been published. Since Hoek (1883), only Foster & Buckeridge (1995a) have reported and described specimens from the Indian Ocean, which were only tentatively identified as Verum (?) minutum .
