Material examined. Holotype NHM UK 2013.1134 and paratype NHM UK 2013.1135, Stn 135: Atlantic, Southeast (near Tristan da Cuhna Island); 1830 m.

Supplementary description. Zevina (1981a), includes descriptions of appendages (but see remarks).

Distribution. Atlantic, excluding polar areas;?Pacific, Southeast. Known depth range 600 to 2400 m.

Remarks. According to the revision of the scalpellids by Zevina (1981a), Scalpellum imperfectum (Pilsbry, 1907a: 75, fig. 30, pl. IV, figs 15–18) is accepted as a synonym of Verum carinatum . However, the details of the plates differ, in particular the V-shaped tergum of S. imperfectum differs from that of S. carinatum . The description of the appendages in Zevina (1981a) was translated from Pilsbry (1907a) and may not be related to V. carinatum . A redescription of this species is needed.
