Geographic & bathymetric distribution. Western Atlantic: Delaware (USA), Nevis, Guadalupe, Venezuela to Brazil (Amapá); 200–750 m depth, occasionally to 1100 m (Blanco Rambla et al. 1994; Pérez Farfante 1988; Poupin 2018; Tavares & Serejo 2007).

Remarks. Previous records for Venezuela: off N Los Testigos Archipelago; off N Margarita Island (Blanco Rambla et al. 1994); off Falcón state, off SW Margarita Island, Nueva Esparta (USNM 139795), off NE Los Testigos Archipelago (identified by Pérez Farfante & Kensley).
