Material examined. 3 nd, 38 miles off N. Los Caracas, La Guaira state, 11°10’12”N 66°34’12”W, Fritjof Nansen R/V, st 811, 582– 592 m depth, 09.x.1988, (USNM 256522); 3 nd, same location (MMM-Crus-346); 5 males, Golfo Triste, Falcón state, no more information (MMM-Crus-351) .
Geographic & bathymetric distribution. Cosmopolitan. Western Atlantic: from U.S. A (Massachusetts) to Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul), including Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Also, in Eastern Atlantic, including Mediterranean Sea, Indo-West, Pacific Oceans; 175-1300 m depth (Pérez Farfante & Kensley1997; Tavares & Serejo 2007; Mantelatto et al. 2022).
Remarks. Previous records for Venezuela include specimens taken from the industrial shrimp fishery in the Carabobo state, La Tortuga and La Blanquilla Islands (Davant 1963) and Margarita Island (Khandker 1963); samples taken by Fritjof Nansen R/ V 1988 from La Tortuga and Margarita Islands and Los Testigos Archipelago (Blanco Rambla et al. 1994) and additional material examined by Pérez Fafante & Kensley 1997 from Falcón state (USNM-139722; 139723; 139705; 254125; 139706); Orinoco Delta (USNM139685) and Los Testigos Archipelago (USNM139686; 139687; 139716; 139717).
