Material examined. 4 nd, 18 miles N of La Tortuga Island, 11°14’N 65°13’W, Fridtjof Nansen R/V st 796, 501– 562 m depth, 09.vii.1988, (USNM 256526); 4 males, 4 females, 25 miles off SE Blanquilla Island, 11°40’00” N 64°14’ 00” W, Fridtjof Nansen R/V st 780, 300–312 m depth, 05.x.1988, (MMM-Crus-474) .
Geographic & bathymetric distribution. Western Atlantic from USA (Massachusetts) to French Guiana (Pérez Farfante & Kensley 1997); 200–1000 m (Felder et al. 2009).
Remarks. The type locality of the species is 17 miles from off NE Puerto Cumarebo, Falcón State. The holotype and sintype of it described by Smith (1885a) as Hymenopenaeus robustus were deposited at USNM (USNM 6907, 6908). Other records of the species in the country were made by Pérez Farfante (1977) and include the Falcón state, Los Testigos Archipelago and Margarita Island (not Araya Peninsula as in Pérez Farfante (1977), and Delta of Orinoco. Blanco Rambla et al. (1994) reports include Tortuga and Margarita Islands.
