Diagnosis. Terminal mouth, simple, thin lips, not having crenulations or papillae. Lower lip horizontally directed forwards. Teeth are usually present in one or more rows, outer row prominent with unicuspids inner rows. Adipose eye fold extensive and covering almost complete eye and pupil. Nostrils nearer to eye orbit and lip than to each other. Posterior nostril parallel with or moderately above the upper rim of eye. Pre-maxilla and maxilla straight, posterior part of maxilla exposed when mouth closed. Weak ctenoid scaled. Anal fin with 3 spines in adults. Pectoral fin horizontally reaches the upper rim of orbit and possesses large and prominent axillary scale.
